The NVIDIA SHIELD TV Pro is the box for people who want everything: TiviMate, Kodi, your own APKs, storage over USB and a network cable. It is still the most powerful Android TV box, but the hardware is from 2019 and since October 2026 it costs a lot more.
On 2 October 2026 NVIDIA raised the US price from $199.99 to $299.99; according to next.ink it is now €299 on NVIDIA's European site. Stock is low at many shops, so compare prices carefully.
NVIDIA no longer sells the standard, tube-shaped SHIELD TV. The SHIELD TV Pro is the only model NVIDIA still offers.

Our verdict
The SHIELD TV Pro is still the most powerful Android TV box for IPTV: TiviMate, Kodi and your own APKs run on it, and you get gigabit Ethernet, two USB 3.0 ports and AI upscaling to 4K. But the hardware is from 2019, it stays on Android TV 11 and since October 2026 it costs a lot more. Only buy it if you can find it near the old price.
How the SHIELD TV Pro scores on the five points we rate every box on. How we rate.
The SHIELD TV Pro came out in October 2019 for $199.99 in the US and €219 in France. On 2 October 2026 NVIDIA raised the US price to $299.99, and according to next.ink NVIDIA's European site now asks €299. At the same time the cheaper, tube-shaped SHIELD TV has dropped out of the range.
In this review you'll read what still makes the SHIELD so strong for IPTV, how updates work, how it differs from the standard SHIELD TV and whether it is still worth the new price.
The SHIELD TV Pro uses the 2019 Tegra X1+ and runs Android TV 11. An upgrade to a newer Android version hasn't been announced, and it won't get the newer Google TV interface. For IPTV and streaming the chip is still more than fast enough, but newer boxes have more modern software.
NVIDIA does keep updating the box, though. SHIELD Experience 9.2 (February 2025) brought AURO-3D sound and Match Frame Rate, 9.2.1 (May 2025) GeForce NOW in 1080p at 120 fps, and 9.2.4 (February 2026) security patches up to January 2026. According to Androidworld, NVIDIA intends to support the SHIELD for a long time.
The biggest drawback now is the price. In the US it went from $199.99 to $299.99 on 2 October 2026, and according to next.ink it is €299 on NVIDIA's European site. In early October, next.ink reported it was sold out at NVIDIA and most shops. For €299 you get plenty of features, but also seven-year-old hardware.
For IPTV the SHIELD has everything that matters. It has a gigabit network port for stable live channels in 4K and Full HD, 3 GB of RAM for big channel lists and the full Play Store. Apps that aren't in there you install yourself as an APK. A TV guide and catch-up depend on your app and your subscription; TiviMate lists a TV guide, catch-up, recording and multiview in the Play Store.
The two USB 3.0 ports make the difference compared with most other boxes. You connect a USB stick or external hard drive for recordings and your own videos, and the Plex app comes pre-installed. With Match Frame Rate (beta), the TV switches to the frame rate of what you're watching, which can prevent juddery pictures.
The remote is more comprehensive than on most boxes. The buttons light up as soon as you pick it up, there is a programmable button, a microphone for voice commands and an IR transmitter for the volume and power button of your TV, soundbar or receiver. Lost it? The remote finder makes it beep.
The best-known feature is AI upscaling. The SHIELD converts 720p or 1080p pictures to 4K at up to 60 frames per second. Many IPTV channels broadcast in HD, so on a big 4K TV you benefit from this every day. In this class it is unique.
For HDR, NVIDIA lists Dolby Vision and HDR10. HDR10+ isn't in the specifications. If you have a Samsung TV, which doesn't support Dolby Vision, you get HDR10. For sound there is Dolby Atmos, DTS:X and AURO-3D (passed through over HDMI) and hi-res audio up to 24-bit/192 kHz.
In 2019 two models arrived with the same Tegra X1+ chip. The standard SHIELD TV is a 40 × 40 × 165 mm tube with 2 GB of RAM, 8 GB of storage and a microSD slot, but no USB ports. At launch it cost €159 in France ($149 in the US). The Pro has 3 GB of RAM, 16 GB of storage and two USB 3.0 ports.
Both have gigabit Ethernet, Wi-Fi 5, Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. For IPTV the Pro is the better choice because of the extra RAM and the USB ports for recording. You no longer have that choice anyway: NVIDIA now only sells the Pro, and according to next.ink and other tech sites the tube has gone out of production.
Watching IPTV
The SHIELD runs Android TV with the full Google Play Store. You install TiviMate, Smart IPTV, GSE SMART IPTV PRO and Kodi straight from there; IPTV Smarters Pro, OTT Navigator and IBO Player weren't officially in the Play Store on 12 October 2026, so you add them as APKs. In the Play Store, watch out for fake apps with almost the same name, and remember that MyTVOnline only works on Formuler boxes.

Frequently asked questions
It still gets updates (SHIELD Experience 9.2.4 in February 2026) and has features you rarely find together: AI upscaling, Dolby Vision and Atmos, gigabit Ethernet and two USB 3.0 ports. Against that, there is 2019 hardware, Android TV 11 and a price rise in October 2026 to $299.99 in the US and €299 on NVIDIA's European site. It is mainly worth it if you can find it near the old price.
No, no new model has been announced (as of 16 October 2026). The SHIELD TV Pro on sale now is the same 2019 model with the Tegra X1+, 3 GB of RAM and 16 GB of storage. Only the price changed in October 2026: NVIDIA pointed to higher component costs, including memory, and stopped selling the regular SHIELD TV.
Both have the Tegra X1+ chip. The Pro has 3 GB of RAM, 16 GB of storage and two USB 3.0 ports. The tube-shaped SHIELD TV has 2 GB of RAM, 8 GB of storage with a microSD slot and no USB ports. Since October 2026 NVIDIA only sells the Pro.
Yes. TiviMate is in the Google Play Store and, according to its description, is made for Android TV and remote-control use, with a TV guide, catch-up, recording and multiview. Smart IPTV, GSE SMART IPTV PRO and Kodi are in there too, and you install other apps as APKs.
Yes. NVIDIA released SHIELD Experience 9.2 (February 2025), 9.2.1 (May 2025) and 9.2.4 (February 2026, with security patches up to January 2026). According to Androidworld, NVIDIA intends to support the SHIELD for a long time. The Android version stays at 11, though; a newer version hasn't been announced.
Yes, with an IPTV app that supports recording, such as TiviMate. Connect a USB stick or external hard drive to one of the two USB 3.0 ports, because the internal 16 GB fills up quickly. Whether recording and catch-up work also depends on your subscription.
