Got a Samsung or LG smart TV and want to watch IPTV without buying a separate box or stick? Then IBO Player is one of the best options. The app runs directly on the TV's own system (Tizen on Samsung, webOS on LG) and is also available for Android TV and other platforms. Once it's set up, you get a clean channel list, films, series and a TV guide, all controlled with your normal TV remote.
IBO Player works a little differently from apps like TiviMate or IPTV Smarters. You don't type your login details on the TV. Instead, you link your playlist to the TV through the IBO Player website, using the TV's MAC address and device key. That sounds technical, but it's easy once you've seen it. This guide walks you through every step.

What is IBO Player?
IBO Player is a media player for IPTV playlists. Like every IPTV player it contains no channels itself: it plays the subscription you add. The app is popular because it:
- runs natively on Samsung (Tizen) and LG (webOS) smart TVs,
- is also available for Android TV, Fire TV and several other platforms,
- neatly splits your subscription into Live TV, Movies and Series,
- supports multiple playlists and an electronic programme guide (EPG).
After a free trial period, IBO Player asks for a small one-time activation fee per device, paid to the app's developer. Current prices and the trial length are shown in the app and on the official IBO Player website. This fee is separate from your IPTV subscription.
What you need
- A compatible TV or device. Most Samsung smart TVs from about 2018 onwards and most LG webOS TVs support IBO Player. Older models may not have the app in their store.
- Your IPTV details. Either an M3U playlist link, or Xtream Codes details (server URL, username and password). With Genova TV you receive them on WhatsApp right after your order or free test.
- A phone or computer to open the IBO Player website.
- A stable internet connection on the TV: at least 15 Mbps for HD and 25 Mbps for 4K. Smart TVs are often on Wi-Fi, so a network cable makes a big difference if you can use one.
Step 1: Install IBO Player on your TV
Samsung (Tizen)
- Press the Home button and open Apps.
- Select the search icon and type IBO Player.
- Choose the app and select Install, then Open.
LG (webOS)
- Press the Home button and open the LG Content Store (called Apps on newer models).
- Search for IBO Player.
- Select Install, then Launch.
Android TV, Google TV and Fire TV
Search for IBO Player in the Google Play Store or Amazon Appstore and install it. If it isn't available in your region, only install it via the download link on the official IBO Player website.
Step 2: Note your MAC address and device key
When you open IBO Player for the first time, the start screen shows two codes:
- MAC address: looks like `a1:b2:c3:d4:e5:f6`.
- Device key: a short number or code.
Write both down or take a photo with your phone. You'll need them in the next step. These codes belong to your TV. They don't change unless you reset the TV or the app.
Step 3: Add your playlist via the IBO Player website
- On your phone or computer, go to the official IBO Player website and open the page for managing your device or playlists.
- Log in with your TV's MAC address and device key.
- Choose Add playlist.
- Give the playlist a name, for example Genova TV.
- Enter your subscription: paste the full M3U link, or, if the site offers the option, choose Xtream Codes and enter the server URL, username and password.
- Optional but recommended: set a PIN to protect the playlist, so nobody else can see or change your details on the website.
- Save.
Always use the official IBO Player website. Copycat sites exist that ask for your MAC address and payment details. The official address is shown in the app itself.
Step 4: Restart the app and load the channels
- Close IBO Player completely on the TV (press Back until it exits, or switch the TV off and on).
- Open IBO Player again. Your playlist now appears on the start screen.
- Select it. The first time, the app downloads the channel list, films and series, which can take a minute with a large subscription.
You'll now see the main menu with Live TV, Movies and Series.

Step 5: Get the TV guide (EPG) working
- With Xtream Codes details, the guide usually loads by itself. Open Live TV and give it a few minutes the first time.
- With an M3U link, the guide depends on the link your provider gives you. If the guide stays empty, ask your provider for the EPG link and add it in the app settings or on the website, if your version supports it.
- Guide an hour off? Check the time zone in the IBO Player settings and make sure the TV itself has the correct date and time.
Useful settings and tips
- Favourites. Mark the channels you watch most as favourites so you don't have to scroll through thousands of channels.
- Hide categories. Hide channel groups for countries you never watch. The list becomes much shorter and faster.
- Parental control. Set a PIN for adult categories if children use the TV.
- Update the playlist. If your provider adds channels, use the reload or update option in the app to fetch the new list.
- Use a cable if possible. The Wi-Fi in many smart TVs is weaker than in a phone or streaming stick. A cable prevents most buffering.
Common problems
- "No playlist" or an empty start screen: the playlist is linked to a different MAC address, or you didn't restart the app. Check that the MAC address on the website matches the one on your TV.
- Playlist loads but channels won't play: check that the link or login details are correct and your subscription is active. Test one channel from a different group.
- The app asks for activation: the free trial period has ended. Activate it through the official website, then restart the app.
- The MAC address has changed: this can happen after a TV factory reset or reinstall. Add your playlist again under the new MAC address.
- Buffering: see if a network cable is possible, restart your router and close other streaming apps on the same network.
Frequently asked questions
Is IBO Player free?
You can try it for free for a limited period. After that the app asks for a small one-time activation fee per device, paid to the developer. The IPTV subscription itself is always separate.
Which is better on a Samsung or LG TV: IBO Player or Smart IPTV?
Both work well. IBO Player has a modern interface with separate sections for films and series. Smart IPTV is simpler and mainly focused on live TV. If films and series matter to you, IBO Player is usually the better fit.
Do I need to add the playlist again after a TV update?
Normally not. Only after a factory reset or reinstall can the MAC address or device key change. In that case, add the playlist again on the website.
Is IBO Player legal?
IBO Player is a legal media player that plays the playlists you add. Whether what you watch is legal depends on your subscription provider. Choose a provider that's clear about its service.
