OTT Navigator is one of the most complete IPTV players available for Android. It combines a clean TV-style interface with a huge number of options: multiple providers, a detailed TV guide, catch-up, favourites and fine control over playback. Best of all, the core app is free, which makes it a popular alternative to TiviMate.

All that flexibility can feel a bit overwhelming at first. This guide keeps it simple: we'll install the app, add your subscription, get the TV guide working and adjust the handful of settings that really matter. Everything else you can explore later at your own pace.

What is OTT Navigator?

OTT Navigator is an IPTV player for Android devices. Like every player, it contains no channels itself: it plays the subscription you add from your IPTV provider. It stands out because it:

  • supports Xtream Codes, M3U playlists and Stalker portals, so it works with almost any provider;
  • has a grid-style TV guide that feels like a traditional set-top box;
  • supports catch-up on channels where your provider offers it;
  • lets you add several providers side by side;
  • is free to use, with an optional premium upgrade for extra features.

Which devices does it work on?

OTT Navigator runs on Android, including:

  • Android TV and Google TV smart TVs (Sony, Philips, TCL, Hisense and others)
  • Streaming boxes and sticks such as Nvidia Shield, Chromecast with Google TV and Xiaomi Mi Box
  • Fire TV Stick and Fire TV Cube (via sideloading)
  • Android phones and tablets

It does not run on Samsung or LG smart TVs without Android. On those TVs, use a player built for Tizen or webOS, such as IBO Player, or plug in an Android TV stick.

What you need

  • Your IPTV details. Ideally Xtream Codes (server URL, username and password), or an M3U link. With Genova TV you receive them on WhatsApp right after your order or free test.
  • A stable connection. At least 15 Mbps for HD and 25 Mbps for 4K. A network cable is always more reliable than Wi-Fi on a TV.
  • About ten minutes.

Step 1: Install OTT Navigator

Android TV and Google TV

  1. Open the Google Play Store on your TV or box.
  2. Search for OTT Navigator.
  3. Select Install, then Open.

Fire TV

OTT Navigator isn't in every Amazon Appstore region. If you can't find it, enable Settings → My Fire TV → Developer options → Apps from unknown sources for your download app (for example Downloader), and install OTT Navigator only from the developer's official source.

Step 2: Add your subscription (provider)

When you open OTT Navigator for the first time, it asks you to add a provider, meaning your IPTV subscription.

  1. Choose Add provider, then Xtream Codes (sometimes shown as Login with Xtream Codes API).
  2. Enter the server URL exactly as you received it, including `http://` and the port number if there is one (for example `:8080`).
  3. Enter your username and password. They're case-sensitive.
  4. Give the provider a name, for example Genova TV, and confirm.
  5. OTT Navigator now loads your channels, the TV guide and, if your subscription includes them, films and series.

Option B: M3U playlist

  1. Choose Add provider, then Playlist or M3U.
  2. Paste the full playlist URL. Typing a long URL with a remote is error-prone, so copy it on your phone and send it to the TV if you can.
  3. Add the EPG link separately (see step 3), because M3U playlists don't always include the guide.

Step 3: Set up the TV guide (EPG)

The TV guide is one of OTT Navigator's strengths.

  • With Xtream Codes, the guide normally loads automatically. The first download can take a few minutes with a large subscription.
  • With M3U, open the provider settings and add your provider's EPG URL.
  • Open the guide from the main menu to see the full grid: channels vertically, time horizontally.
  • Guide an hour off? Look for the EPG time shift option in the provider or EPG settings, and make sure your device's clock is set automatically.

Set the guide to update automatically, for example once a day, so it never runs empty.

Step 4: The settings worth changing

OTT Navigator has hundreds of options. These are the ones that make the biggest difference for most people:

  1. Favourites. Mark the channels you watch most. On large subscriptions this saves a lot of scrolling.
  2. Hide groups. Hide channel groups for countries or categories you never watch. The list gets shorter and faster.
  3. Start on boot. If the box is only used for TV, set OTT Navigator to start automatically when the device switches on.
  4. Open on the last channel. Let the app start on the channel you were watching.
  5. Player settings. If a channel stutters or has no sound, try a different player engine or decoder in the playback settings. The default works for most streams.
  6. Parental control. Protect adult categories with a PIN if children use the TV.

OTT Navigator free or premium?

The free version covers everything most people need: live TV, the TV guide, favourites and catch-up. The optional premium upgrade adds extra features and customisation, and supports the developer. Check the app itself for what's currently included and the price.

Common problems and quick fixes

  • "Authorization failed" or no channels: check the username and password for typos and capital letters, and check that the server URL includes the port.
  • Empty TV guide: wait a few minutes after the first setup and refresh the EPG. With M3U, make sure you added the EPG URL.
  • Films and series missing: log in with Xtream Codes instead of M3U.
  • Stuttering picture: use a network cable or 5 GHz Wi-Fi, close other streaming apps and try another player engine.
  • Too many connections: your subscription allows a maximum number of devices at the same time. Close the app on devices you're not using.

Frequently asked questions

Is OTT Navigator free?

Yes, the app is free to use, with an optional premium upgrade. It contains no channels: you always need a subscription from an IPTV provider.

OTT Navigator or TiviMate: which is better?

Both are excellent Android TV players. TiviMate is known for its polished, simple interface. OTT Navigator offers more options and a strong free version. If you like to tweak settings, OTT Navigator is a great fit. If you want the simplest possible experience, TiviMate may suit you better.

Can I use OTT Navigator on several devices?

Yes. Install it on each device and add the same login details. Keep in mind the maximum number of simultaneous connections in your subscription.

OTT Navigator is a legal media player. Whether what you watch is legal depends on your subscription provider. Choose a provider that's clear about its service.
