IBO Player works differently from apps such as IPTV Smarters: you don't type your playlist in on the TV, but link it online to the device ID that the app shows. That takes a little getting used to, but after that the TV starts straight up in your channel list. The first seven days are free; after that, activation costs €10 once per device. In this review you'll read how that works and what the app can and can't do.
How the €10 activation works
IBO Player is free to try for seven days. After that you activate the device for a one-off €10 on the maker's activation page, tied to the device ID that the app shows. The licence is for life for that one device.
Only pay when everything works: the maker warns about this itself. The activation contains no channels and doesn't fix problems with your playlist. So test your subscription first during the trial, and only use the official activation address; there are fake portals with similar names.
Linking a playlist via the website
Unlike most apps, you don't enter your subscription on the TV. You go to the management portal on the maker's site, log in with your TV's device ID and key and enter your M3U link or Xtream details there. The app then fetches the playlist itself.
The advantage: typing with the remote is a thing of the past and you can manage or replace playlists remotely. The drawback: your playlist details are held by the maker, so only use this via the official address.
The viewing experience on a smart TV
The interface is simple and quick: live TV with a TV guide, films and series with covers, favourites and a parental lock. For everyday channel hopping on a smart TV, that works very well.
Power users run into its limits: recording and multiview are missing, and the guide is less extensive than TiviMate's or OTT Navigator's. On an Android box those apps are therefore the better choice; on Samsung and LG, IBO Player is one of the more complete options.

How to install IBO Player on Samsung TV
- Open your Samsung TV's app store, search for "IBO Player" and install it.
- Start the app: you'll see the device ID (MAC address) and the device key on the screen.
- On your phone or computer, go to the iboplayer.com management portal and log in with that ID and key.
- Add your playlist: an M3U link or the Xtream Codes details of your IPTV subscription.
- Restart the app on your TV; your channels and the TV guide load.
